Sandra's 100
This weekend it's the big one, yes it's Sandra’s 100, when we spend a day cycling around flat bits of Somerset before some climbing back to Yeovil.
Some may spend more time peddling than others but its not a race, peddle as fast / as slowly as you like, the aim is to get round and enjoy yourselves.
Those riding at a more modest pace can set off from the Yeovil Athletics Centre at 8am. Everyone else can start after 8.30am and the faster riders (those in the usual groups 1&2) at 8.45am or 9am, any earlier and you will be too early for Marilyn and Leanne's first feed stop at Coxley.
I'll be there to see everyone off, but this year wont be riding, but may try and ride some of it to see some of you lovely lot out on the roads.
The lunchtime stop is Sweets at 51 miles as a first choice or Avalon Marshes if you make a 1/4 mile detour at just before 50 miles, or you could continue to Double Gate Farm in Godney at 54 miles. I have rang Sweets to let them know there will be riders from around midday onwards as this was the most popular stop last year.
As usual there will be a second feed stop at 75 miles, about a mile before Westonzoyland. Of course, you don't have to ride the whole hundred miles if you don't want to. There are three accompanying routes, that you can use to get you back.
Note, this year there will be no Broom Wagon, or a sweeper-upper, so please ensure you have the means and capabilities to look after yourself and fix any punctures etc, and a means to contact someone should you need help or picking up. Riding in groups will ensure everyone has enough support so please help each other should you see a rider stuck on the side of the road struggling to fix something or just needing some company to help them get round. It is the riders responsibility to ensure they have the means to get home should a mechanical occur that is not fixable at the road side.
Weather looks fine all day at the moment, cloudy/sunny with a max temp of 24 degrees around 4pm. We have a breeze from the northwest/west with some gusts up to 20mph around midday then dropping as the afternoon progresses. Please make sure you have suncream on and drink lots of fluids during the ride. Marilyn & Sweets will have top ups.
I think that covers everything everyone needs to know !
See you all up at the Athletics Centre, bright and early, ready for a nice day exploring the Somerset Levels.
