All-rounder Evans is a big hit despite missing award night

Clive Brooks presented the prizes at
Yeovil Cycling Clubs annual awards
ceremony at the Masons Arms, Lower
Odcombe.
Last seasons fastest time trialist
Gareth Evans was not present to
receive his four awards as he has been
studying at the University of Wales
and was unable to attend
He won cups for fastest at 50 miles
(1 hour 58 minutes 48 seconds), 25
miles (57 mins 15, secs) and best short
distance all-rounder.
Evans also won the Points Cup for
best rider in the evening time trial
series.
Veteran road race champion Nick
Armstrong, of West Camel, whose
average speed over ten, 25, 50 and 100
miles was 23.34 mph, claimed the time
trial championship and veteran best all
rounder trophies.
Somerton’s Douglas Northcott was
top young time trialist winning both
juvenile and junior' awards. He
averaged 26.46 mph in four ten mile
events.
Another youngster testing the
veterans was Andrew Tearle , of Yeovil, who won the club hill climb cup
and the trophy for best display in a
national championship.
Chris Absolom was senior road race
champion after he enjoyed a great
season during which he gained his
second category licence.
He also picked up the cup for best
performance in Yeovil road race
promotions.
The Webb Memorial Shield for
outstanding service to the club was
presented to Derek Todd for his
untiring work as treasurer, committee
man, race organiser and club run leader.
